Begin februari verscheen er een duistere, langzamere en geoxideerde versie van de eigenwijze Rotterdamse band Rats on Rafts. Dit in de vorm van een nieuw album: een volledig analoog vastgelegde LP in mistige galm: Deep Below. De recensies uit binnen- en buitenland spraken lovend over het nieuwe album, waarmee de band opnieuw geheel tegen alle stromingen en trends in zwemt. Bijna verdrinkend in duistere gedachten blijft er toch hoop hoorbaar, zoals in de prachtig nostalgische singles “Japanese Medicine”, “All These Things” en “Sleepwalking”.

Er worden echo’s gehoord van The Cocteau Twins, The Sound, The Cure en Clan of Xymox — van de duistere, vroege jaren 80 waarin de dreiging van oorlog altijd voelbaar was. Net zoals nu?

Geboren in Eindhoven, maar al jaren pendelend tussen de VS en Nederland, is Truus de Groot een onmisbare pionier binnen de experimentele en underground muziekscene. Sinds 1978 vormt zij de drijvende kracht achter Plus Instruments: een project dat met steeds wisselende samenstellingen elektronische muziek blijft vernieuwen. Improvisatie, een minimale aanpak en een onweerstaanbare groove staan centraal.

In 2025 staat ze op het podium met Richard van Kruysdijk als energiek duo met akoestische drums, of solo met haar rijke en eigenzinnige repertoire.
